Founder and Master Artisan of Harmonic Art
Andrés Gomm is the founder and visionary spirit behind Harmonic Art, where the precision of engineering meets the essence of sound artistry. A pioneer of the handpan in Latin America and among the first artisans to circulate his instruments in Europe, he opened a path that today inspires musicians, makers, and communities around the world.
Trained as a Mechatronic Engineer, Andrés fuses technical mastery with artistic intuition to reveal what lies hidden within steel. Each handpan born from his hands is unique: a metallic voice tuned with precision yet filled with soul—crafted to expand musical expression and awaken inner stillness.
Beyond the craft of building, Andrés is also a tuner and performer. He does not simply make instruments—he brings them to life, infusing each one with character and vibration. His handpans have traveled across continents, accompanying artists and sound seekers who recognize in them more than an instrument: a transformative experience.
Under his guidance, Harmonic Art is not just a workshop, but a creative space where every piece becomes a bridge between cultures and languages, uniting people through the universal resonance of music. OUR STORY
Always in Search of Inspiration
In 2014, in the city of Medellín, Colombia, Harmonic Art was born from the pioneering vision of Andrés Gomm—mechatronic engineer, passionate musician, and artisan who dreamed of giving voice to steel. From that small workshop, where the first hammer strokes resonated like a ritual, began a journey that would transform the handpan into an instrument of global reach.
What started as a solitary quest soon became a movement. The first Harmonic Art handpans were praised for their purity and depth, captivating both musicians and spiritual seekers. By 2015, their sounds had already reached Europe, where Andrés was among the first artisans to circulate his instruments, opening a new chapter in the history of the handpan.
In 2016, a historic alliance with Meinl Percussion consolidated that vision and placed Harmonic Art at the heart of the global handpan community. By 2018, the expansion of the workshop made it possible to increase production without losing the artisanal quality that defines every instrument. And in 2022, a strategic partnership with Schlagwerk expanded its global presence even further, ensuring that Harmonic Art handpans found homes in every corner of the world.
Today, with more than 7,000 instruments created, Harmonic Art stands as a global reference in the art of the handpan. Playing the Harmonic
Top Shell: At its center lies the distinguished “ding” note, surrounded by tone fields—each tuned to include a fundamental pitch, an octave, and a compound fifth. Tap different parts of a field to reveal shimmering harmonic overtones: the long side releases the octave; the short side unveils the fifth.
Bottom Shell: Inspired by traditional Ghatam and Udu drums, the bottom shell features a Helmholtz resonator port that delivers a deep, sustained bass or a punchy low thump, depending on your touch. A double-curved rim and protective rubber ring enhance comfort and protect the instrument during transport.
